I guess that was quite an ‘art fight’, wasn't it? In the last post, I announced participating in this year's Art Fight tournament. Now that July's over, was it as fun as I had hoped? For me, certainly.
When I had started, I was hoping to get at least 13 of these done, though due to some other creative projects I was participating in by that time I was only able to get 9 done in total. Either way, I'll gladly take it over the larger number.
If you've been following my social media pages, you've probably seen all of what I've done. Otherwise, here it is:
On that note, as of publishing the way the art-a-thon pages got compiled were reworked to make way for its own dedicated page, featuring semi-detailed (varies from each attack) summaries of how I pulled them off, if you really wanted to know how I did something.
we are what's on
Since I'm already on the topic of updating the site, I might as well continue tumbling down that very same path:
It's been a while since the Prevue Guide Emulation Tutorial really received an update. The last major revision was when I rewrote everything to be more clearer to understand, as apparently some people were having trouble understanding what I was saying. Honestly, I don't blame them.
Up until now, one of many pages I hadn't gotten the time to write was a guide on setting up Hollywood, the last major release of the Prevue Channel software following its acquisition of TV Guide.
Since earlier this year, I've had a guide on the backburner, as I have been working behind-the-scenes on a simple and messy Python-based script that'll let you take an XMLTV-formatted lineup and convert it to an SQL query that can be injected to put new listings in, rather than being stuck on listings from 2018.
There's more to Hollywood that I (and various others) have yet to uncover, so you might want to stay tuned for future developments. For now though, you may check out the Hollywood tutorial over here.
In some related news, I have also been spending a good chunk of the year (more accurately Q1/Q2) looking into how a completely different, much lesser-known electronic program guide software operates. If you've visited the Genericable booth at VCF Midwest 20 this year, you might've seen it without even knowing:
Other than that, I've got nothing else to say for the time being.
roll camera!
Finally, I've decided to make a short demo reel of the graphic design work I've created throughout this decade so far:
This reel contains many quick clips playing in progression. If you think this is going to be a problem for you, I would recommend not viewing this.
For a complete list of stuff, alongside other file formats, I've attempted to put together a separate page for it for such purposes.
So, in conclusion: I enjoyed Art Fight 2025, I will likely do it again next year, I'm still adding things to the website, yadda yadda yadda. I think you get the idea at this point.
There's more to come in the next few months before the end of the year, per usual. Unless I just decide not to update until the next year begins, who's to say at this point? :P
